Course Details

Start any time and extend your professional scope and become a Forest Therapy Tourist Guide (FTTG) certified by and accredited with the International Nature and Forest Therapy Alliance (INFTA) (Professional Training Course Code: HLTFTT32226). INFTA-Certified FTTGs perform a vital role in sustainable health & wellbeing tourism and environmental protection.

INFTA’s Forest Therapy Tourist Guide training is best suited for people from countries in the Global South who have:

  • a personal interest in dealing with tourists, visitors or customers
  • a passion about nature and its healing potential
  • an interest in helping others to connect with nature and improve their wellbeing
  • are concerned about health, nature and environmental issues

INFTA-Certified Forest Therapy Tourist Guides have used the training to:

  • start or expand their career as Nature Guides, Tour Guides or Tour Operators
  • expand the services of hotels, resorts, botanical gardens and national parks with regards health & wellbeing
  • help tourists to destress, relax and recover in suitable forested environments, botanic gardens or nature reserves
  • educate tourists about the local nature, forests and pristine environment which they come to visit

The recommended overall duration of the INFTA FTG training is three months and comprises of:

  • compact introductory workshop (24 lessons over three days)
  • theoretical and practical training (144 lessons over three months)
  • theoretical and practical assessment

Participation in an in-person training workshop is optional.

The recommended personal requirements to participate in the training are:

  • several years work experience, preferably in areas like tourism, health & wellbeing, hospitality or education
  • proficiency in reading, speaking and writing English
  • basic IT skills
  • personal interest in dealing with tourists, visitors or customers
  • physically, mentally and emotionally fit
  • interest in health, nature and environmental issues
  • professional behaviour and ethical conduct
  • keen to learn and ability to self-manage studies

These abilities are recommended due to the nature and responsibilities of Forest Therapy Tourist Guides. Also, a current First Aid certificate (which may be acquired separately from other training providers prior to the final exam) and adequate insurance coverage are recommended for each FTTG trainee.

The training is delivered by experienced mentors and lecturers (all having tertiary degrees and specialized in their subject areas; all are INFTA-Certified and Accredited Forest Therapy Guides). INFTA will assign a personal, dedicated mentor to each FTTG trainee.

INFTA’s training adheres to the International Core Curriculum for Forest Therapy (ICCFT) validated by 120+ experts from 20 countries in Europe, America, Asia and Australia in 2017. The ICCFT is the world-wide standard in Forest Therapy Guide/Forest Therapy Tourist Guide training.

The INFTA FTTG training utilizes the latest international research and focuses on the evidence-based aspects of this recognized Health & Wellbeing practice. The INFTA FTTG Training is quality-controlled and monitored by Dr Dieter Kotte, INFTA’s Secretary & International Strategic Advisor, who – among other qualifications – holds a PhD in International Comparative Education from the University of Hamburg, Germany, and who was the Editor-in-chief of the International Handbook of Forest Therapy (Kotte et al 2019).
